Soul Whisper: Tammy Weis Sings Fernando Pessoa

Wednesday, June 5th

Critically-acclaimed Canadian singer/songwriter, Tammy Weis, is thrilled to be returning to Alberta to perform Soul Whisper, her new album, which features the poetry of Fernando Pessoa at Festival Place on June 5. The Sandro Dominelli Trio will join Tammy on stage to perform the album along with jazz standards and audience favourites.

Originally from Sherwood Park, but currently based in Lisbon, Portugal, Tammy defines Soul Whisper as the “construction of a folk-oriented soundscape, but always with jazz influences”, which are her musical roots. The recording process of this album was intense: “Fernando Pessoa has changed the way I think and live my life,” said Weis. “He brought out emotion in me I didn’t know I had. A vulnerability in my voice that I hadn’t heard before”.

The album itself is unprecedented: it’s the first time that a foreigner has set to music, a full album of Pessoa’s poetry. Fernando Pessoa was the most important Portuguese writer in the 20th Century and the album was given the approval of Fernando Pessoa’s nephew Luis Miguel Rosa Dias (1931-2019) who witnessed many of the recordings.

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
