Songwriting Workshop: Jeffery Straker

Rocky Mountain Listening Room Songwriting Workshops Series. This workshop will focus on storytelling songs with Jeffery Straker.

Join Jeffery Straker, singer-songwriter pianist and Contemporary Canadian Folk Singer of the Year (Canadian Folk Music Awards 2025) for a workshop exploring what makes listeners lean in and stay with a song from beginning to end. Jeffery will explore the art of the storytelling song—songs that bring characters, places, and events to life through narrative. He will share practical approaches to creating memorable characters, building tension, shaping engaging plots, and using vivid detail without overwhelming the listener. Whether you’re writing about real people, imagined worlds, or everyday moments, you’ll gain tools to craft songs that connect through story and leave a lasting impact.

This workshop is part of 7 workshops series (can attend all or select) with the Rocky Mountain Listening Room for the headlining artists who are performing the following evening. Workshop Season passes are available, 7 workshops for the price of 6.

Workshops take place at Dalhousie Community Hall, and concerts (additional ticket needed) take place at Rosedale Community Hall.
