June 8 brings together a trio of performances including drones, free improvisation, live electronics, graphic scores, clowning and much more!
Biboye Onanuga, Holly Sangster, and Matt Meeker, aka Sol Viator will bring their incredible combined experiences to the fore in a brilliant improvised set. Beginning with tripartite dialogue, they will build into a mesmerizing soundscape centered around grooves, drones, loops and freely improvised interactions of drums, saxophone, bass and electronics.
XiME, the experimental music ensemble of The University of Alberta, is led by Mark Segger, and will be offering selections from Mari Alice Conrad’s inspired and innovative graphic/ text-based score collection, Six Arctic Experiments. Created as a result of research and photography done in the Arctic, XiME’s expert interpretive skills will bring these fascinating scores to life, giving a sonic representation of place, experience, and change.
Experimental performance duo Sir Kadian and Laughter Lily will unite their practices in Palm Palm, a dazzling soundscape combining Laughter Lily’s songs and sound journeys with Sir Kadian’s multimedia art and music. This promises to be a joyous and unique experience for all, a journey exploring interplay between movement and stillness, the absurd and the meditative, chaos and peace, and yes – with a bit of clowning included!
Tickets $20/$25. Festival Passes $60/$75. Cash bar available.
