Sarah Almquist Opening Reception

The Alberta Society of Artists is pleased to present our creative residency exhibition for 2026, featuring the work of Alberta artist Sarah Almquist.
The exhibition runs July 2nd – August 27th at the ASA Gallery, #222, 1235 – 26 Ave SE, Calgary, Alberta T2G 1R7. Gallery hours are Wednesday – Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 AM and parking is free.
There will be an opening reception on July 4th, 2 – 4 PM and an open studio on August 22nd, 2 – 4 PM.
“Based in Calgary, Alberta (Moh’kinstsis, Treaty 7 Territory), Sarah recently started a social craft club inspired by her cat Morti and her approach to life—embracing sunbeams, finding time to rest, and making sure to play every single day.
Throughout her residency, Sarah will explore using rest and relaxation as a form of protest and examine how that practice can exist within an institution. Her work highlights various artists who engage in this sort of practice as inspiration, while exploring how she practices self-care and how to bring creativity into everyday life separate from commercialized or monetized art.
Alongside these concepts, an interactive workshop portion continues community engagement with a dedicated focus on mindfulness and crafting. This directly complements her newly launched social craft club, which focuses on the joy of hyperfixations, prioritizing time to craft, and immersing oneself within the activity.”
