Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery’s Heritage Day Hootenanny
This family-friendly, free community event will see the MAG and Heritage Square brimming with live folk music, food trucks, guided tours, hobby horse making, artisan booths, t-shirt stamping, and good natured, old timey races and games for all ages.
The Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery is a cornerstone in Red Deer’s cultural landscape, known for showcasing the region’s unique stories and exhibiting artists whose work aims to intrigue and inspire.
The Heritage Day Hootenanny’s line-up of musicians is stellar folksy-indie mix of local to emerging artists with Wyatt C. Louis, Tim Hus, and The Royal Foundry following up local musicians Mark Cruz, Frank Peters, and Mike Szabo.
Live folk music sets start on the hour, with races to follow each set in and around Heritage Square. Inside the museum, folks are welcome to build their own hobby horse for the end of day parade, take in a guided tour of Remarkable Red Deer and Galleries 1-2, or simply wander through to discover all that the MAG has to offer. The Food Bank’s Totally Chill Ice Cream truck will be onsite giving out a free scoop of ice cream to each attendee (while supplies last!) courtesy of the MAG Board of Directors. Several other food trucks with great eats for purchase will also be onsite. Local Artisans and Makers such as Blair Thorson, Second Nature Studio, Michele Brewster, the Consistently Inconsistent Potter, Berry’s Busy Bees, Robert Braun, Al’s Custom Leather, Big Blue Barn Designs and MTN GT Fibre Art will have booths with their wares sprinkled throughout the park for people to find something unique and handmade.
