Pysanky For Peace
With the Easter season upon us, Kingsway Mall, in partnership with The Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts (ACUA), will be putting on ‘Pysanky for Peace’, a fundraising campaign in support of humanitarian efforts for Ukraine. The initiative pays tribute to the Ukrainian Easter tradition of making “pysanky”, carefully decorated Easter eggs featuring intricate designs in a variety of styles and colors.
Local artists have begun gathering at Kingsway to paint the eggs live in the hallways, to complete a total of a dozen larger-than-life pysanky, each measuring nearly six-foot-high. Once finished they will be displayed at the shopping centre until May 9th and will be auctioned off with all proceeds going towards Ukrainian Canadian Social Services (UCSS). The entirety of the proceeds raised through the auction will be directed to the UCSS, whose current focus is on supporting displaced families and individuals fleeing from Ukraine and arriving here in Alberta.
Edmontonians can come down to Kingsway to observe the artists in action as they design and paint their eggs from April 7th to 16th or come by after to see the final designs that will be on display at the centre until May 9th.
