PJ Perry Quintet

A true disciple of swing and improvisation, saxophonist PJ Perry is widely recognized as one of North America’s premier saxophonists. For several decades, he has set the standard for saxophone playing in Canada, earning admiration from critics, colleagues, and audiences alike.
Throughout his storied career, PJ has shared the stage with a who’s who of jazz legends, including Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel LeGrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, Rob McConnell, Slide Hampton, Herb Spanier, Bobby Shew, Fraser McPherson, Tommy Banks, Joe LaBarbera, Clarence “Big” Miller, and Red Rodney.
In 2010, he was featured as a soloist in the hit Broadway production Come Fly Away, which showcased the timeless songs of Frank Sinatra paired with the choreography of Twyla Tharp. His 1999 orchestral album with the Edmonton Symphony earned a JUNO nomination, while his 1993 release My Ideal won the JUNO for Best Jazz Recording. PJ was also named Best Alto Saxophonist by Jazz Report magazine for a record-setting six consecutive years.
In recognition of his contributions to Canadian music, PJ was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta in 2007, and in 2016, he was appointed to the Order of Canada.
PJ’s Calgary performance will feature his long-standing working quintet—an ensemble celebrated for its exceptional chemistry, dynamic interplay, and deep musical connection developed over years of collaboration.
