Paula Vogel’s “Indecent” Benefit performance
Come for the show, stay for the gala! This special evening includes a performance of Paula Vogel’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning play “Indecent,” about the indecency trial of Sholem Asch, a well-known playwright in New York’s Yiddish theatre scene a century ago. Sholem’s “God of Vengeance” featured two women in love, which offended the sensibilities of the day.
The play will be followed by a gala and silent auction to benefit Temple Beth Ora. The evening will feature dessert, wine, live klezmer music, and recordings from the University of Alberta’s Folkways Collection, which was founded and donated to the university by Sholem’s son, Moses Asch. Lots of great items up for auction, too!
