Oscar Nominated Shorts: Documentary

Saturday, March 1st

Presented by the Edmonton International Film Festival Society!

The Documentary Shorts OSCARS® category has been an eye-opening and informative group of short films for many years, and this year is no different. Difficult and urgent issues like capital punishment, in-school violence, and police brutality are uncovered and scrutinized with care and artistry, while two music-themed shorts underline the effect of the arts, from the perspective of a 6 year old and an 87 year old. This programme doesn’t shy away from the ugliness present in our world, and doesn’t forget the beauty.

The film program runs 165-mins. and includes the following films:

  • Death by Numbers – Dir: Kim A. Snyder (33-mins.) USA
  • I Am Ready, Warden – Dir: Smriti Mundhra (37-mins.) USA
  • Incident – Dir: Bill Morrison (30-mins.) USA
  • Instruments of a Beating Heart – Dir: Ema Ryan Yamazaki (23-mins.) Japan (Japanese w/subs)
  • The Only Girl in the Orchestra – Dir: Molly O’Brien (34-mins.) USA

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
