Nature and Culture: International Poetry Film Festival
Welcome to Nature and Culture: International Poetry Film Festival, held at the Calgary Central Library on Wednesday, November 5th, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This year’s festival features 31 films from 16 different countries, exploring how poetry, image, and sound can help us feel our place within the living world. Together, we move through four microfestivals: Roots & Understories, Urban Entanglements & Dignity, Language, Memory & Borders, and Poetry of Time & Earth , each offering a unique way of seeing and sensing the relationship between humans, culture, and nature. The microfestivals are made up of poetry films, short films, experimental films, animations and documentaries. Each microfestival is proceeded by a live poet performance. The festival is produced by Poetic Phonothèque and is in partnership with the Calgary public library. Nature and Culture has been running in Copenhagen, Denmark since 2025. This year marks the festival’s first expansion beyond Denmark, with screenings in both Calgary, Canada and Malmö, Sweden.
This festival invites something quieter, slower, and more radical, a turning toward the poetic and the subtle. We are not only here to watch moving images, but to be moved by them: to listen, to feel, and to be changed.
