Makiisma: An alt-rock band from Lethbridge, Alberta, Makiisma derives their unique sound from a combination of heavy riff-driven melodies and unexpected melodic changes all topped with haunting vocals, soulful violin, and energetic keys. Founded by Megan Brown in the spring of 2017, Brown (an accomplished violinist) brings together elements of the classical world with her passion for heavy, raw, expressive music to create songs that lie somewhere between Portishead, Black Mountain, and The Last Dinner Party. Makiisma’s second album, The Heart Remains, will be released in summer 2025. Their debut album ‘Lady Misery’ was released in March 2020 and is available here: https://tinyurl.com/ytkyj96r.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
