L’automatisme Solo Art Exhibition
The Alberta Society of Artists is pleased to present the solo exhibition “L’automatisme with a cultural identity” featuring the work of Alberta artist Michael Kiré.
The exhibition runs July 1-31, 2024, and there are two separate meet the artist events:
- Monday, July 1 from 12-12:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 31 from 10-11:00 a.m.
“Common elements in nature pervade many places across the world. Without the artist’s personality added to the Art, we fail to read a geographical origin. Michael began to think what makes Canadian Art Canadian. As we celebrate Multiculturalism, it is obvious that elements from his ethnic background is an additional layer adapted to the study.
The works of the Surrealists are similar, in that they are derived from the automatic practices with the `writing’ stream mostly based on the Latin alphabet script. There is no racial connotation to an Asian ethnical focus. This exhibition shows an Asiatic cultural influence on the concept by merging the disciplines of automatic drawing and writing.”
