John Hewitt & The New Americans

Wednesday, November 5th

John Hewitt is often considered the hardest working musician in Alberta and certinaly the most prolific. On average releasing 2-3 albums per year and touring over 150 dates in the road he is what we call a work horse. Inspired by great songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison and John Lennon you’ll hear all of those influences in this Edmonton supergroup. John is also the producer of shows (Picking Up the Pieces: The Songs of Gordon Lightfoot, The Life and Times of Jim Croce) as well as the frontman to this great Albertan project. Join us for an evening of intimate ballads, lyrical imagery, soaring harmonies and a little bit of rock and roll!

What folks are saying about John Hewitt:

“Dedicated simply doesn’t do Hewitt justice””-Americana UK

“With artfully crafted songs, masterful musicianship and humbled authenticity, John Hewitt is the full package and the real deal.”- Rhea March, CJSR

“A very gifted artist”-Tony King, CKUA

“One of the hardest working musicians in Alberta”- Tom Coxworth, Folk Routes CKUA

“He’s so prolific that even his recent record is no longer a recent record!”-Oskar Zybart, CKUA

“It’s rare for a musician to maintain a prodigious output from year to year, and even rarer to have two releases within a year and have both of them be highly acclaimed, yet that’s exactly what John Hewitt pulled off in 2023. Hewitt’s “Broken Rebels” and “Wonderlust” are among the year’s best releases”- Chad Huculak, Edmonton Journal

“Reading Hewitt’s lyrics, one repeatedly encounters a poetic storyteller.”-Fish Griwkowsky, Edmonton Journal

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
