Ada Lea with Sean Davis Newton & Matthew Cardinal at Winterruption

Saturday, January 25th

Ada Lea is the musical project of Montreal-based songwriter Alexandra Levy. She released her debut album—what we say in private—and her sophomore album—one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a garden—both on Saddle Creek and Next Door Records. Ada Lea’s songs feature melodies that are at once classic and unique, and lyrical narratives that are both autobiographical and fictional. After extensive touring with her band, she is now putting the finishing touches on her third record.

Sean Davis Newton’s songs aren’t unlike the creatures he writes about on his debut LP Bird Brain, coming out on October 18th, 2024; they’re solitary, tuneful, and curious; resourceful, scrappy, and playful; occasionally ugly, messy, and cacophonous. Whether it’s McCartney-esque barroom piano romps or Pavement inspired nonsense rock, Newton’s songs are bound together by his singular voice as a songwriter and arranger. Newton is also the managing editor and publisher of the Cups N Cakes Network, a small Canadian music press, and an active freelance recording engineer and producer. Sean makes his home in Edmonton, AB, on the Avenue of Champions. He doesn’t have any pets and that’s probably for the best.

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
