Jeffery Straker

Saturday, October 11th

Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker serves up a rootsy-storytelling brand of song that has been said to transport listeners – out onto a northern Canadian Lake or to the main street of a prairie town. With critical comparisons to the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Jackson Browne and Murray McLauchlan he’s twice been named ‘Roots-Folk Artist of the Year’ in the Saskatchewan Music Awards.

Straker released his 9th recording “Great Big Sky” in 2024 – steeped with themes of the Canadian prairies. AmericanaUK praised it saying “With emotional and sonic depth, Great Big Sky is an album we’d thoroughly recommend”. The album saw Jeffery win a 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for ‘Contemporary Canadian Folk Singer of the Year’. Earlier this year a copy of the CD unexpectedly made its way into Buckingham Palace and found a fan in HRH King Charles III who sent Straker a message thanking him for the music. Straker also just returned from Japan where he was invited to perform a weeklong series of shows at the Canada pavilion at Expo25 in Osaka.

Wherever he performs the artist’s audience connections are stand-out and CBC Radio has said: “He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us feel like we’re an old friend he’s ready to catch up with.”

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
