Indecent

Friday, December 1st - Saturday, December 9th

Indecent is a 2015 play by Paula Vogel. It recounts the controversy surrounding the play God of Vengeance by Sholem Asch, which was produced on Broadway in 1923, and for which the producer and cast were arrested and convicted on the grounds of obscenity. Asch’s play ignited a conflagration of passion among artists and audiences, shattering societal norms and artistic confines. With eloquence, Vogel’s script weaves a rich tapestry of history, embracing themes of love, tradition, censorship, religious hypocrisy, and the unwavering quest for truth. A live klezmer band will accompany the performance.

On December 2nd, in conjunction with the University of Alberta Studio Theatre and Edmonton’s Reform Jewish congregation Temple Beth Ora, this special performance and gala event will include a post-show celebration with live Klezmer music and archival music from Moses Asch (Folkways Records now in the Smithsonian), dessert, and a special silent auction to benefit Temple Beth Ora.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
