Honouring the Gold Mountain Dreamers

Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with a special author event at the Cochrane Public Library, May 27 at 6:15 p.m. – 7:15 p.m., Conversations and Coffee at the Cochrane Public Library.

Jacqueline Louie, a Calgary-based author, storyteller, freelance writer, and editor, speaks on her newest work Honouring the Gold Mountain Dreamers. This powerful and insightful book looks back more than a century to explore the impact of the 1923 Chinese Immigration Act, also known as the Chinese Exclusion Act, and the experiences of early Chinese immigrants whose hard work and resilience helped shape communities across Canada.

Through storytelling, historical reflection, and thoughtful discussion, Jacqueline Louie highlights the remarkable courage and contributions of the individuals often called the Gold Mountain Dreamers. Their journeys were marked by significant challenges, discrimination, and barriers, yet they played a vital role in building the foundations of many Canadian communities.
This event is presented in recognition of Asian Heritage Month, a time to reflect on and celebrate the many contributions of people of Asian origin who have made and continue to make a meaningful impact on the cultural, social, and historical fabric of Canada.
