Getz/Gilberto Bossa Nova Tribute: Authentic Brazilian Music

Friday, March 22nd

Gabriel Zacharias (Guitar/Vocals) and Brandon DeGorter (Saxophone) invite the audience to experience the beautiful Brazilian music of Bossa Nova in its most authentic version, sung in its original language and instrumentation.

Getz/Gilberto was recorded in 1963 and is the album that popularised bossa nova worldwide. It is one of the best-selling jazz records of all time, selling over one million copies. It was widely acclaimed by music critics, receiving the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, and also became the first non-American album to win Album of the Year, in 1965.

In the first set, the quintet will play the album note for note including classics such as Girl From Ipanema and Corcovado. In the second set, they will be paying tribute to other Brazilian music classics written by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Gabriel Zacharias – Guitar and Vocals
Brandon DeGorter – Tenor Sax
Alex Gonzalez – Piano

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
