Garneau String Quartet – Inaugural Concert Series
Garneau String Quartet Inaugural Concert Series presented by MacEwan University Conservatory of Music
As the university’s 2022-2023 Quartet-in-Residence, the Garneau String Quartet is announcing a series of exciting concerts to celebrate the upcoming year. Quartet members violinists Robert Uchida and Laura Veeze, violist Keith Hamm and cellist Julie Hereish are each prominent local artists, principal players of the Edmonton Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton, with distinguished careers as solo, chamber and orchestral musicians at home and abroad.
On November 7, 2022, the Garneau Quartet welcomes CBC host and narrator Tom Allen and guest harpist Lori Gemmell in “A Poe Cabaret”. This program explores the shadows of Poe’s greatest stories and deepest heartbreak through the music of Claude Debussy, his protegé André Caplet and Canadian composer Alexina Louie. “A Poe Cabaret” (November 7) takes place at 7:30pm at Muttart Hall.
Other guest artists in the series include Philip Chiu (piano), the Rosebud String Quartet, Roman Rabinovich (piano), and Diana Cohen (violin), who will present both classics and lesser-known gems from the chamber music repertoire by Debussy, Brahms, Haydn, Beethoven, Alexina Louie, Leoš Janáček, Béla Bartók, Barbara Assiginaak and Fanny Mendelssohn.
The Garneau String Quartet launched the Chamber Music Academy at the MacEwan University, where they have a full roster of exceptional students. This program offers an environment for young musicians to hone new musical skills and make music with their peers, as well as the opportunity of working with all the guest musicians featured in the concert series.
