First Presbyterian Choir with Festival City Winds

Sunday, November 2nd

A Concert Celebrating Our Roots of 150 Years of the Presbyterian Church

Would you love to sing a few of the old favorite hymns with a 40- or 50-piece wind ensemble, pipe organ, and choir? This is one of the rare delights that will be a part of our concert in celebration of 150 years of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Join us on Sunday, November 2nd at 4 pm. Plan to come early to visit the museum on the third floor which will be open from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

As early as 1882, the first structure for Edmonton Presbyterian Church (later to be named First Presbyterian) was built and at the same time a committee was formed to purchase a musical instrument, a hand-pumped organ! From those earliest days there was a choir leader, hence a choir. While the choir has been integral to worship ever since, the Festival City Winds has been meeting, rehearsing and performing in First Presbyterian Church for almost thirty years. It is so fitting that we join forces to celebrate this auspicious milestone in the history of our church.

Historical information taken from: First Presbyterian Church, Edmonton: A History written by Kenneth Munro and published in 2004.

Admission by free-will offering/pay what you can!

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
