Witnessing the Truth

Witnessing the Truth: 10 Years Since the TRC Calls to Action
FIRE Spotlight Series: Indigenous Burial Sites Working Group

Join us for a special gathering marking the 10-Year Anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. “Witnessing the Truth” will bring together members of the Indigenous Burial Sites Working Group (IBSWG), the Treaty 6 Confederacy IRS Taskforce Group, the Edmonton Heritage Council, and the Edmonton Public Library to reflect on and share Indigenous-led research into Indian Residential Schools, Indian Hospitals, unmarked burial sites, and the ongoing community efforts led by Indigenous historians and researchers.

The FIRE Indigenous Spotlight Series is a series hosted by the Edmonton Heritage Council that uplifts Indigenous Knowledge Holders, researchers, storytellers, and cultural practitioners working across amiskwaciy and Treaty 6 Territory. The series is dedicated to creating spaces for dialogue, truth-telling, and cultural connection through Indigenous community-led programming.

This event will feature:

🔸 Opening prayer, smudge, and lighting of the qulliq
🔸 Reflections from Dr. Kisha Supernant, Florence Loyie, and Dr. Crystal Fraser
🔸 A community sharing circle guided by Elders and supported by trauma-informed care team members
🔸 Tall Feathers Art Kits for creative reflection during the sharing circle
🔸 Closing words, refreshments, and visiting

We welcome survivors, family members, youth, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and community members to gather in a space of witnessing, remembrance, and recommitment to the work of truth and reconciliation.

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
