Euripides’ Helen

Wednesday, May 24th - Sunday, June 4th
Trunk Theatre presents Euripides’ Helen in the environs of the Queen Elizabeth II Planetarium in Coronation Park from May 24th-June 4th, 2023.  Set seven years after the Trojan War, Helen of Sparta never went to Troy, but rather was spirited away to Egypt, and replaced with a false Helen to punish her abductor Prince Paris. A pawn in the wars of men and gods, a vilified Helen attempts to take control of her life, rescue her sweet but dim husband, and escape a dishonourable suitor through her wits and wiles. For this al fresco production, audiences bring chairs or picnic blankets for the first theatre production in Coronation for over forty years.   The adaptation by Frank McGuinness is the Canadian premiere of this ironic comedy.  The production is directed by Amy DeFelice and the all female cast includes Julie Golosky, Linda Grass, Sophie-May Healey, Kristin Johnson, Rebecca Merkley, Prudence Olenik, and Caley Suliak.
Performances are May 24th-June 4th, 2023, Wednesdays-Saturdays 7:30pm, with  2:00pm Sunday matinees and a 12:30pm Tuesday matinee on May 30th.
