Elizabeth Shepherd

Friday, November 10th

Velvety-voiced keyboardist Elizabeth Shepherd made her international debut in 2006 when her first album, “Start To Move,” was voted one of the best jazz albums of the year by listeners of the influential Gilles Peterson Show on BBC Radio Worldwide. Alongside Esperanza Spalding and Robert Glasper, she is part of the new wave of jazz-influenced musicians introducing this art form to a new generation of music fans. Nominated six times for the JUNO Awards and twice for the Polaris Prize, she has released seven widely acclaimed albums, featuring collaborations with musicians such as Lionel Loueke and British producer Nostalgia 77.

Elizabeth Shepherd’s seventh album, Three Things, is an adventurous mashup of jazz, soul, found sound, electronica, and gospel. It was written during the pandemic, at a time when Quebec was under lockdown (with a curfew) and musicians couldn’t leave their homes, let alone get together to create. So Elizabeth did what she does best: she improvised, turning instead to the world around her for inspiration – bird songs, typewriter sounds, garbage cans, laughter - you name it.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
