Dana Wylie’s How Much Muscle Album Release Concert w/ Special Guest Sammy Volkov
Edmonton singer-songwriter Dana Wylie is often described as a musician’s musician. In an eclectic 20-year career which has spanned three continents and seen her working and writing in an array of styles and contexts, there is nothing she has loved more than collaborating with her peers, making space for them to weave their individual creativity into her songs.
Her new album How Much Muscle is an expression of this love. It was recorded almost entirely live-off-the-floor with a crack ensemble of Wylie’s friends and long-term colleagues – producer/engineer Harry Gregg, drummer Daniel Stadnicki, bassist Keith Rempel, keyboardist Brennan Cameron, trombonist Audrey Ochoa, saxophonist Dave Babcock, and trumpeter Bob Tildesley.
How Much Muscle was recorded in the early COVID days, amidst a flurry of PCR tests and rescheduling due to scratchy throats. Wylie and co. are now very excited to finally bring these songs and arrangements to a live audience, and to officially launch the album out into the world with a concert at SOHO on February 4th. In anticipation of yet another collaboration, the wonderful Sammy Volkov – with whom Wylie will soon release an album of country duets – will open the evening.
