“Consumerism” Group Exhibition

Wednesday, October 2nd

The Alberta Society of Artists is proud to present the group exhibition “Consumerism” featuring the work of Alberta artists: Alexis Marie Chute, Byron McBride, E. Ross Bradley, Gracie Safranovich, Hope Jacyk, Jilene Shafers, Kimberly Jones, Kyungah Song, Leslie Delanty, Shelley Ewing, Stephanie Clark, Stephen Chan, Sylvie Pinard, Tom Andriuk, Verna Vogel and Zoong Nguyen.

“The process of acquiring goods and services beyond the basic need defines consumerism, something which many people pride themselves on as a way of cultivating a self-identity and social empowerment.

Consumerism is also widely criticized for having an impact on the environment. Critics believe Climate Change is due to an overexploitation of natural resources and large production of waste from disposable goods.

This exhibition aims to explore the notion that Consumerism is two-pronged: a possible root to many societal ills or a promotion of consumers freedom of choice.”

For more information, go to albertasocietyofartists.com/consumerism_drumheller/ , email coordinator@albertasocietyofartists.com, or call the ASA Gallery at 403-265-0012. The Alberta Society of Artists is the oldest society of juried professional artists in the province, providing art education and exhibitions in public venues since 1931. The Society’s goal is to increase public awareness and appreciation of the visual arts in Alberta.

The exhibition runs October 2 – 31, 2024 at the Western GM Art Gallery, 80 Veterans Way, Drumheller, AB. The Gallery is open every day.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
