Chronos Vocal Ensemble ‘Symbiosis’
Closing the return to a full season of concerts, Edmonton’s award-winning Chronos Vocal Ensemble is pleased to present
Symbiosis on June 4, 2023 at 7:30pm in McDougall United Church.
A synthesis of new and old, Symbiosis draws on the history of the choral canon, and presents new, local, and deeply personal works in this ambitious program that will present three world premieres.
There are many strong local connections on this program, including premiere performances of works by Edmonton composers David Dykstra and Stuart Beatch. The choir also presents commissions initiated by local Chronos supporters Mark Freeman and David Almond, whose personal stories inspired the commissioned works. Powerful and personal, several pieces on the program are dedicated to recently departed loved ones or feature close-to-the-heart subjects.
Premiered on this program will be a brand new three-movement work by Nicholas Ryan Kelly inspired by Shannon Bramer’s poetry from Climbing Shadows, co-commissioned by Chronos Vocal Ensemble and the Vancouver Cantata Singers. The Penticton-based
composer will travel to Edmonton for the performance weekend to work with the choir and attend the premiere.
Not in Edmonton? This performance will be professionally recorded and streamed live for any ticket holder and livestream only tickets are available: we hope to welcome an audience from across Canada!
