Cheryl Fisher Quintet

Friday, June 20th

Hailed by the Montreal Jazz Festival as “one of the greatest female singers in the history of Canadian jazz,” Cheryl Fisher is a renowned vocalist, composer, and lyricist who has recorded six albums under her own name. A JUNO nominee and Best New Jazz Artist award recipient from the Alberta Recording Industry Association, Fisher holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (with distinction) from the University of Calgary and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami, where she also taught.

With a performing career that spans the globe, Cheryl is also a respected jazz educator and has served on numerous North American jazz scholarship committees. Her live performances and recordings are celebrated for their originality, emotional depth, and outstanding technical excellence. Her albums feature some of Canada’s top jazz musicians, including Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry, Terry Clarke, Neil Swainson, and Reg Schwager. Her fifth album, Moments Like This, pairs her with jazz legends such as five-time Grammy Award nominee Ira Sullivan and Canadian JUNO Award-winning pianist Oliver Jones.

Cheryl’s most recent album, Quietly There, features Portland guitar great John Stowell, his trio Scene, and award-winning woodwind artist Eric Allison. The album won a Global Music Award and was named one of the Top Ten Jazz CDs in CKUA’s annual poll. Cheryl Fisher is a favourite of Medicine Hat audiences, known for her captivating performances that resonate deeply with her listeners.

Joining Cheryl will be Eric Allison on woodwinds, Morgan McKee on keyboard, Kodi Hutchinson on bass and Jon May on drums

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
