Canada Paints Plein Air Competition

Saturday, August 9th

A new landscape painting competition organized by Canada Paints Plein Air is calling to artists for a one-day summertime event situated in Calgary’s picturesque Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Applications are open now for Canada Paints Plein Air Competition being held Saturday, August 9, 2025. Canada Paints Plein Air is dedicated to supporting the tradition of open air landscape painting by immersing artists in the great outdoors.

Spectators are welcome to watch the artists paint the landscape from life.

“The tradition of trying to capture the landscape in a single sitting is a remarkable challenge. We’re giving artists the opportunity to leave the studio behind and set easels down on the natural land. It’s a practice worth preserving and sharing with a like-minded community,” said Canada Paints Plein Air group member Ray Swirsky.

Cash prizes will be awarded to winners of first place ($1,000), second place ($500) and third place ($250). Prize winners will be announced by a panel of judges following the close of the live painting event.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
