BirdBelly

Friday, November 14th

BirdBelly is the new moniker of Alberta-born Métis singer-songwriter Cynthia Hamar — a name that signals a creative shift into deeper, more cinematic territory. Praised as “menacing, powerful, and contemplative” (Music Arena Gh, 2022), her music weaves raw emotion with richly textured folk-Americana. Hamar has released four studio albums, including Joint & Marrow (Neon Moon Records), which charted on earshot!’s National Top 50 and earned her a 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year.

Her forthcoming album The Wind The Wood marks the official arrival of BirdBelly — a project rooted in authenticity, resilience, and the wild grace of the prairie landscape.

This special album release show brings the cinematic sound of The Wind The Wood to life with a full band, creating a lush and immersive experience. Expect a night of sweeping arrangements, heartfelt storytelling, and a few surprises along the way.

Opening the evening is Edmonton’s own Von Bieker, whose blend of poetic songwriting and vibrant folk-pop energy sets the perfect tone for what promises to be an unforgettable night of music and community.

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
