Bach and Charpentier
Come join the Calgary Bach Choir, Chamber Orchestra and soloists all under the direction of Terry Edwards for a program that combines the spirit of Thanksgiving with the anticipation of Christmas.
The Baroque Age has provided us with music that has become like a soundtrack to our lives. Bach’s “Nun danket alle Gott” (Now thank we All Our God), based on the German chorale tune of the same name, is a familiar melody around autumn and the season for thanksgiving. Indeed, the choral last movement practically dances and sings for joy! Here’s your chance to hear the entire cantata.
The French Baroque is bursting with simple, yet singable (and danceable) noëls that celebrate the upcoming Christmas season. Charpentier’s “Messe de Minuit pour Noël” contains many familiar French melodies. Rounding out the program is instrumental music by Daquin & Corrette for organ and chamber orchestra based on noëls.
