Gloom Town

Gloom is a gray place to live.
The town wasn’t always this way but no one can remember anything different. Rory and his mother live in Gloom, struggling to make ends meet and finding small joys, but Rory yearns for more. He finds a job cleaning at a Manor House whose master, and butler, and rooms, hold endless secrets. Rory must defy everyone around him to discover the truth about the manor house, the truth about Gloom and even the truth about himself. With fear and loneliness clawing at his heart will Rory find his potential in time to save Gloom and it’s inhabitants?
Youth from across the City of Calgary gather annually to create alongside professional choreographers and theatre artists for 11 weeks. The result is a completely original, family friendly performance. This year we are thrilled to adapt Gloom Town by Ronald L. Smith to the stage!
Formerly known as Children in Dance, Alberta Dance Theatre has been a part of the Calgary dance community since 1979. Our roots are in the contemporary, creative dance experience but explore storytelling through movement in all genres of dance and a variety of theatre practices.
