54 and Up Dance Party

Saturday, May 31st

I am 78 years young and recent discussions with several of my friends in the mid 50 – 75 range uncovered a level of anxiety that I didn’t expect. Concerns about inflation and a slow economy were common. Specifically, grocery prices, the expense at restaurants and worry about money.
To sum this up, a lot of the joy in later life is being replaced by constant anxiety.

50 years ago I arrived in Canada having left my birthplace, Belfast in Northern Ireland. “The Troubles”, the sectarian war, had become so bad it was time to leave.
My first entrepreneurial venture after living in Calgary for 18 months was to start my own DJ business. This was done part time on weekends and supplemented my full -time income as a Lab. Supervisor at the old Calgary General Hospital.

I am resurrecting my DJ persona 50 years later to help bring back some of the joy in this older generation. The Event is a Dance Party and the music will be the most popular dance hits of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The music they grew up with and still love today. Happy memories for many, I’m sure.

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
