50th Anniversary of The Phantom of the Paradise

Saturday, March 29th

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film Winnipeg claimed as its very own, join us for a rare public screening of the Brian De Palma rock opera Phantom of the Paradise and the award-winning documentary Phantom of Winnipeg at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre.

Phantom of Winnipeg covers the wild and wonderful phenomenon that saw Winnipeg embrace all things Phantom of the Paradise. Come watch the reason why Winnipeg proudly claims its title as the only city to wholeheartedly embrace the film when it first came out back in 1974.

TONTO (The Original New Timbral Orchestra) appears in the Phantom of the Paradise film and gives the Phantom his voice! TONTO is housed at Studio Bell as part of NMC’s “living collection,” and continues to be used to record new music to this day.

Premium tickets include reserved seating in rows D-F and a visit to NMC’s recording studio for a TONTO demonstration and a photo session from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

This is a rare opportunity for true Phantom fans to celebrate the film and meet TONTO before the show – get your tickets now!

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
