You Are Loved
Rubaboo is a Métis-Michif language word and means a rich stew filled with all good things. Rubaboo is a philosophy about what sustains us; it’s about feeding the spirit, and it’s about thriving. The theme of this year’s festival is to amplify that You Are Loved, and is infused into our beautifully curated and engaging line-up: an Opening Reception that celebrates our 15th anniversary in style with artists Michelle Thrush and Cikwes; a family friendly play called Silly Billy from choreographers Arik Pipestem and Amy Hampton, about a rare white buffalo unhappy with his uniqueness; our signature Fusion Experience honouring some incredible young ancestors, the late Troy Emery Twigg, Taran J. Kootenhayoo and Bishop Pipestem; Amik Tales, a new play from Josh Languedoc that unpacks the oral stories of Amik and his journey to become the next best dam builder; enticing panels and workshops for Indigenous artists and creatives known as Rubaboo Side Dishes; Talk Treaty to Me, a collaborative theatre project exploring Treaty 6 relationships through different perspectives; and the You Are Loved Dance Party to celebrate who we are and wrap up the festival.
The 15th Anniversary of the Rubaboo Arts Festival is presented by the Dreamspeakers Festival Society, and takes place at Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre (8529 Gateway Blvd NW) and Brighton Block (9666 Jasper Ave). For TICKETS, DETAILS and FULL SCHEDULE, visit dreamspeakers.org
