Papa Charlie's Boys label corner

Here’s one of my favourite 78 finds of 2015 – Papa Charlie & His Boys on buff Bluebird from 1936 featuring the early bluesman Papa Charlie McCoy. It’s more of a black string band ‘hokum’ record than hard blues, including some lively mandolin work. The record has a nasty chip out of the edge but the music is happily not affected. With a record this hard to find, you’re happy to have it, even with a wee edge-chip.

We heard “Let My Peaches Be” a couple of times on RRR in 2015 and I’m betting we’ll hear it a few times more on future programs.
