Happy Spring, everyone!
First, let me reiterate my thanks to you: your support of our recent Fundraiser has put a spring in the step of everyone who loves this unique Alberta treasure.
As we mentioned during the campaign, in the spirit of the season of renewal, we’re making a few changes to the weekday schedule.
As you may have already heard, we’re enormously excited to be returning to Calgary. Our new studio, in the magnificent National Music Centre, will open in the fall.
But we’ve been eager to share more Calgary voices with the province as soon as we could. So, we’ve opened a temporary, pop-up studio at Heritage Posters and Music (1316 11 Ave SW).
We’re broadcasting two new weekday shows from our temporary space, and the hosts for those programs reflect our guiding philosophy: respect CKUA’s traditions and prepare for the future. For that reason, our new line-up adds a new member to the next generation of CKUA personalities alongside one of CKUA most beloved veteran broadcasters.
So, here’s a look at your new weekday afternoon:
Noon to 2 pm: The Spot with Hayley Muir (in Calgary)
We’re proud to introduce a talented young programmer to the CKUA family. Expect an impeccable selection of funk, r ‘n’ b, rock, twang and roots flavours.
2 pm to 4 pm: Somethin’ Else with Lionel Rault (in Edmonton)
Lionel brings his signature sound to the middle of the afternoon, with an up-tempo and musically diverse mix of rock, folk, pop, indie, jazz and world beat.
4 pm to 6 pm: Freeway with David Ward (in Calgary)
CKUA favourite David Ward returns to the afternoon drive with a wide-ranging, playfully cultivated mix of sounds that will make your afternoon commute a pleasure.
And we’ve got one more change coming in the evening.
10 pm to Midnight, Sunday to Thursday: Stardust with Tony King
Tony promises to take you to a place where music provides solace at the end of the day, through gentle grooves anchored in the genres of jazz, downtempo and the indescribable.
To Monica Miller’s legion of fans: We’re looking forward to Monica’s return to the schedule. Expect to hear her sophisticated and soulful selections in the CKUA lineup this summer.
As always, I’m eager to hear your thoughts. Please share them with me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here comes Spring!
