Soul of a Woman was recorded over the last two years of Sharon Jones’ life, and released about a year after she lost her battle with cancer. In her words “I have cancer, cancer doesn’t have me”. That attitude was evident – if she wasn’t recording, she was on tour, and you can hear it in Soul of a Woman . It’s been described as a testament to her life and career, and it’s the top of the chart for December.

1. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings – Soul Of A Woman (Daptone)
2.  Buffy Sainte-Marie – Medicine Songs (True North)
3. Mavis Staples – If All I Was Was Black (ANTI-)
