The man you’ll meet this week is not your typical Mixtape guest. For example, Alex Hoffman-Ellis could very recently have been seen sporting the green and gold of the Edmonton Eskimos, as a linebacker wearing the number 12. But he’s also a world traveler, a food enthusiast, a jewelry maker, he’s crazy about oceans, and he’s a poet. Oh, and he’s passionate about music.

Now a four-year CFL veteran, Alex Hoffman-Ellis isn’t one to let himself be defined by any one pursuit or talent. He was brought to our attention as a potential Mixtape guest by Bud Steen, longtime CKUA listener and donor, and former Chair of the CKUA Board of Directors. For many years, when he wasn’t busy in his a career as a lawyer, Bud could be found officiating CFL football games. When he encountered Alex he was immediately taken by this man who clearly saw professional sport as just one of the many passions he wanted to purse in his life.

Tune in this Wednesday evening at 7 to meet the multi-facted Alex Hoffman-Ellis. (Here’s a link to some of Alex’s writings and poetry.)
